In the Vergel do Lago neighborhood of Maceió, a car accident resulted in the death of a two-year-old boy, Marcos Antônio, after a speeding Ford Fiesta drove onto a sidewalk and struck him and his four-year-old sister. While the sister was treated for minor injuries, the collision proved fatal for the toddler.

Following the crash, the driver, 53-year-old José Ilton Daltron, was reportedly pulled from the vehicle and lynched by a crowd of bystanders. Daltron died at the scene from his injuries. The Batalhão de Operações Policiais Especiais (Bope) was deployed to manage the scene. Civil Police have initiated investigations into both the fatal accident and the subsequent mob violence.
