On August 27, a fatal traffic accident occurred on the A1 motorway near Unec, Slovenia, involving a family originally from North Macedonia and residing in Ravenna, Italy. An Audi A4 struck the rear left side of a truck trailer that had stopped in an emergency lane due to a mechanical defect.

The collision resulted in the deaths of a 74-year-old woman and two children, aged 4 and 11. Two adults, aged 33 and 39, survived the crash with injuries; the mother was airlifted to a hospital. 

Preliminary investigations by the Koper Police Administration noted that while the adults were wearing seatbelts, the children were not. The driver tested negative for alcohol and drugs, and authorities are investigating whether driver fatigue was a factor. North Macedonian authorities are coordinating with Slovenian officials regarding legal proceedings and the repatriation of the deceased.
