On August 31, 2026, a 53-year-old man named Fernando Garcia Leal de Oliveira died following a confrontation with police in the Nossa Senhora Aparecida neighborhood of Três Lagoas. 

The incident reportedly began when Oliveira entered a mental health crisis inside his home, becoming aggressive and barricading himself in a bedroom. When the Força Tática tactical unit arrived, they encountered Oliveira armed with two machetes. After attempts to subdue him with a Taser and rubber bullets were unsuccessful, an officer discharged a firearm. Oliveira was transported to Hospital Auxiliadora but succumbed to his injuries.
