In the Tekkeköy district of Samsun, a dispute regarding the pruning of a quince tree branch led to the fatal shooting of 73-year-old İbrahim Çam on August 11.

The incident occurred in the Yağbasan neighborhood. The suspect, 46-year-old Mustafa Çam—a resident of France who had returned to Turkey for the hazelnut harvest—reportedly engaged in a heated argument with his uncle, İbrahim Çam, and his cousin, Recep Çam. The confrontation escalated through verbal insults and physical tension.

Mustafa Çam claimed the shooting was an act of self-defense, stating that his uncle fired a weapon at him first, causing a graze to his leg. He told the court, “When my uncle shot at me, I shot to protect myself. I am regretful.” 

İbrahim Çam was critically injured and died while being transported to the hospital in a private vehicle. Mustafa Çam was apprehended by gendarmerie forces, referred to the courthouse, and subsequently sent to the Samsun T-Type Closed Prison.
