Authorities in Almería, Spain, are investigating the fatal shooting of Antonio Santiago Santiago, a municipal cleaning service worker. The incident occurred early Wednesday morning near a recycling plant in the Sector 20 industrial estate, where the victim was shot multiple times while approaching his vehicle.

The case has gained attention due to the victim’s connection to a high-profile 2002 murder; Santiago was the brother of Juana Santiago, who is serving a 23-year sentence for that crime. While public speculation has suggested a potential family vendetta, Paco Fajardo, the father of the 2002 murder victim, has denied any involvement. The Government Sub-delegate in Almería, José María Martín, has advised discretion while the official police inquiry continues to determine the motive and identify the perpetrators.
