An inquest has detailed the deaths of two British men, Aran Martinson, 33, and Cassius Newton, 34, who died while hiking in the Wadi Naqab desert valley in Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates, on July 18.

The men had set out around 7:00 a.m. on a recreational route that did not require specialized equipment. Search teams eventually located them several kilometers from their vehicle. 

Preliminary medical findings indicate the deaths were caused by cardiac and respiratory arrest resulting from severe heat stress. Reports note that temperatures during the hike exceeded 40C, with some accounts stating exposure to temperatures exceeding 50 degrees Celsius led to organ failure and rising body temperatures.
