Singer-songwriter Father John Misty, the stage name for Josh Tillman, released a new single titled ‘The X-panded Universe’ on September 29, 2026. The track, co-produced by Tillman and Drew Erickson, is described as a “downtempo, pensive piece” that moves from a “brooding first half into an orchestral finale.” This release follows two other singles from earlier in the year, ‘The Old Law’ and ‘The Payoff’.

In conjunction with the music release, Tillman announced his first solo headlining tour since 2013. The tour is scheduled to begin on December 9 in Boulder, Colorado, and will include various stops including Fort Collins, Santa Fe, Tucson, Napa, and Grass Valley. The tour is set to conclude with two performances at the Sunset Cultural Center in Carmel-by-the-Sea on December 18 and 19, which will benefit the Big Sur Park School. Damien Jurado is scheduled to appear as a special guest for the December dates.
