During its 16th combined convocation ceremony, which recognized 3,555 graduates from the 2024 and 2025 academic sessions, the Federal College of Education (FCE) Yola leadership and stakeholders called for the institution to be upgraded to a Federal University of Education.

Provost Dr. Mohammed Usman Degereji and other stakeholders argued that such a transition would grant university status to its degrees, expand student enrollment, and increase staff capacity to meet the rising demand for teacher education in North-east Nigeria. The institution, established in 1974, currently awards both degrees through affiliations and the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE).

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, and representatives of Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri. Officials noted the college’s ability to maintain academic consistency and infrastructure development despite broader challenges facing teacher-training institutions.
