Füchse Berlin is managing player availability following a busy schedule that included the Club World Championship in Egypt.

Initially, club CEO Bob Hanning reported that Danish handball star Mathias Gidsel was nearing a return from a severe muscle strain, citing a “70 percent” probability of him playing in a match against SG BBM Bietigheim. Subsequently, the club confirmed the return of Nils Lichtlein, who is available for selection after a 100-day rehabilitation period following foot surgery.

Head coach Nicolej Krickau has since criticized the aggressive defensive tactics used against Gidsel, expressing disbelief regarding the level of physical contact the three-time world handballer is permitted to endure. Krickau noted that since the departure of Lasse Andersson, the team’s offensive play has centered more heavily on Gidsel, making him a primary target for opposing defenses.

While Krickau observed that Gidsel remains composed following fouls, she emphasized that the intensity of the opposition’s physical play is excessive. The coach expressed hope that Lichtlein’s recent comeback, following an injury during a victory against SG BBM Bietigheim, will provide much-needed relief for Gidsel and improve the team’s offensive opportunities.
