Federal prosecutors have unsealed indictments against Moises Freire, 19, and Brian Peralta Cabrera, 18, in connection with the death and sexual assault of a Fashion Institute of Technology student in Manhattan. Prosecutors allege that on March 18, Freire brought fentanyl to a student dormitory and falsely claimed the substance was pure cocaine. After two female students ingested the drug and lost consciousness, Freire allegedly raped one student and took explicit photographs of her. The victim, identified as Annabel Richter, died three days later from acute fentanyl intoxication. A second student survived the incident. Freire faces charges including conspiracy to distribute narcotics resulting in death and distribution of a controlled substance with intent to commit rape. Peralta Cabrera is charged with conspiracy to distribute narcotics resulting in death and serious bodily injury. Both defendants have pleaded not guilty. A third individual, Harry Rosales Pino, has already pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute narcotics resulting in death and is awaiting sentencing. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-18: Two men charged in fatal fentanyl drugging and rape of NYC student Two men face federal charges for allegedly drugging two students with fentanyl at a Manhattan college dorm, resulting in the death of one student and the sexual assault of another. 4 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/two-men-charged-in-fatal-fentanyl-drugging-and-rape-of-nyc-student ### 2026-10-15: Fashion Institute of Technology student killed and raped after being drugged with fentanyl Federal prosecutors charged two men after a Fashion Institute of Technology student died from a fentanyl overdose and was raped in her Manhattan dormitory in March. 15 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/fashion-institute-of-technology-student-dies-after-alleged-fentanyl-rape --- Cite as: Federal charges in Manhattan student death and rape.
