In August 2026, the Public Prosecutor's Office of São Paulo formally charged Lafayete Gonzaga da Silva with the femicide of his former partner, Angelita Manoela Rodrigues. 

Investigators report that the suspect first killed the victim's pet dog with a knife at their shared residence before pursuing Rodrigues to a supermarket in the Morro Grande area. There, he attacked her with multiple knife wounds in the meat department. The incident was witnessed by numerous customers and captured on security footage. Rodrigues later died from her injuries at Hospital Brasilândia.

The indictment includes charges of femicide committed through cruel means and animal cruelty. The prosecution has requested the maintenance of the suspect's preventive detention and a minimum compensation of R$ 500,000 for the victim's family. Witnesses and colleagues noted that the couple's ten-year relationship involved long-standing domestic violence and physical abuse.
