Data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) reveals that Mexico recorded 20,741 fetal deaths in 2025, representing a national rate of 58.9 deaths per 100,000 women of childbearing age. Approximately 80.5% of these deaths occurred before childbirth, while 18.3% occurred during labor or delivery. The primary causes identified were maternal factors and complications during pregnancy, labor, and delivery, which accounted for 45.6% of cases. Perinatal disorders represented 24.8% of the total.

Subsequent analysis shows that the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) and the Ministry of Health handled 50.2% of these recorded deaths. Regarding prenatal care, 17% of the women involved received no consultations, while 63.9% had between one and five. 

Regional variations were noted, with San Luis Potosí recording the highest rate at 81.3 deaths per 100,000 women. In terms of absolute numbers, Estado de México reported the highest total with 3,823 deaths.
