Fiat is developing a new compact, zero-emission electric city car potentially named the Koala. Designed as a full segment A urban passenger car, the model aims to provide an affordable entry point into the electric vehicle market, with an expected price point below 15,000 euros.

According to CEO Arnaud Belloni and design chief François Leboine, the vehicle will be built on the Stellantis E-Car platform, sharing technical architecture and mechanical components with the upcoming electric Citroën 2CV to optimize production costs. Unlike the retro-styled Fiat 500 or the light quadricycle Topolino, the Koala is expected to prioritize practicality and interior space, possibly utilizing a squared body shape inspired by Japanese kei cars.

The project is reportedly well advanced, with a debut expected in 2027 and production scheduled to begin in 2028 at the Pomigliano d’Arco plant in Italy. The Koala will sit below the Grande Panda and the Grizzly SUV in Fiat’s future lineup.
