In the opening stages of the FIBA Champions League season, Cibona Zagreb secured a 96-76 victory against Galatasaray in their first home game in ten years, led by Khalif Battle’s 32 points. Following this win, Cibona faced Legia Warsaw in Zagreb. Legia Warsaw secured their first victory of the season by defeating Cibona 95-77. The loss left both teams with a 1-1 record in the Group B standings. Following a period of poor form, including three consecutive losses in the ABA League and the defeat against Legia Warsaw, Cibona announced the mutual termination of head coach Ivan Rudež’s contract. Sports Director Marin Rozić noted that the decision was made in the “best interest of both parties” as the club seeks to stabilize performance. While the club acknowledged Rudež’s previous successes, including a Croatian championship, assistant coaches Neven Nikolić and Andrej Štimac will temporarily lead the team until a permanent replacement is appointed. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-23: Cibona dismisses coach Ivan Rudež following poor start Cibona has dismissed head coach Ivan Rudež following a string of losses in the regional league and FIBA Champions League. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/cibona-dismisses-coach-ivan-rude-following-poor-start ### 2026-10-20: Cibona basketball club dismisses coach Ivan Rudež Cibona basketball club has mutually parted ways with head coach Ivan Rudež following a string of losses in the ABA League and FIBA Champions League. 6 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/legia-warsaw-defeats-cibona-in-fiba-champions-league ### 2026-10-06: Cibona defeats Galatasaray 96-76 in FIBA Champions League opener Cibona defeated Galatasaray 96-76 in their first FIBA Champions League home game in a decade, led by Khalif Battle's 32 points in Zagreb. 10 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/rk-zagreb-hosts-aalborg-hndbold-in-ehf-champions-league --- Cite as: FIBA Champions League Group B basketball.
