Fidelity Bank Ghana has called for structural reforms to address retirement security and trade efficiency in the country.

Regarding pensions, the bank’s deputy managing director, Atta Yeboah Gyan, highlighted a “pension coverage paradox” where less than one percent of the informal sector—which makes up over 80 percent of the workforce—contributes to the mandatory Tier 1 scheme. To address this, the bank proposed implementing flexible contribution models via mobile money, creating diaspora-specific pension products, and linking enrollment to the Ghana Card registration process.

In addition to pension advocacy, bank officials have urged for trade modernization. During the Breaking Barriers to Trade conference, Director of Banking Operations Aaron Ameyaw emphasized the need for harmonized customs systems and improved data quality to better support entrepreneurs and enable the effective use of artificial intelligence in customs management.
