The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) has appointed former professional players to leadership roles within its youth national team structures.

In late September, Giovanni Galli was named head of delegation for the Italy Under 18 national team. Serving as a mentor within the Club Italia framework, Galli was tasked with supporting the squad coached by Daniele Franceschini during their preparations for the Under 18 World Cup in Qatar. At the time of his appointment, the team was in Croatia for friendly matches.

Following this, in October, Giuseppe Signori was appointed head of delegation for the Italy Under 20 national team. Confirmed by FIGC extraordinary commissioner Giovanni Malagò and technical director Claudio Ranieri, Signori will support the squad coached by Carmine Nunziata. Malagò noted Signori’s sporting experience as an asset for player development and strengthening the connection between players and the national team.

Signori, a former striker who was previously acquitted in legal proceedings related to a 2011 betting scandal, is scheduled to make his official debut on November 12 in Padova during a match against Portugal. He has expressed a commitment to instilling ‘responsibility, passion, and sacrifice’ in the young players.
