The University of the South Pacific, in collaboration with Cisco and Telecom Fiji, has launched a digital skills hub to train workers in artificial intelligence, networking, and cybersecurity. This hub aims to serve the broader Pacific region, connecting to learning sites in Samoa and Vanuatu to address gaps in digital literacy and technical expertise. Parallel to these educational efforts, the Fijian government is treating cybersecurity as a priority for national security and economic stability. The National Cyber Security and Resilience Strategy 2026–2031 has been introduced to protect critical infrastructure and improve incident response. These security measures coincide with significant infrastructure expansions, including Google’s investment in a data operations centre and the expansion of Starlink services, intended to support the nation’s growing business process outsourcing industry. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-28: Fiji prioritizes cybersecurity amid digital infrastructure expansion Fiji is elevating cybersecurity to a national priority through its 2026–2031 Resilience Strategy to protect expanding digital infrastructure and economic interests. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/fiji-prioritizes-cybersecurity-amid-digital-infrastructure-expansion ### 2026-10-26: Fiji opens Pacific digital skills hub to bolster regional expertise Fiji has opened a digital skills hub at the University of the South Pacific to train workers in AI, networking, and cybersecurity, aiming to serve as a regional digital center. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/fiji-opens-pacific-digital-skills-hub-to-bolster-regional-expertise --- Cite as: Fiji digital infrastructure and cybersecurity development.
