Fiji is implementing reforms to improve its immigration services and enforcement capabilities. To address previous shortages, the Ministry of Immigration has begun processing applications that were on hold and has received an initial shipment of 30,000 electronic chip passports from Germany. 

To increase accessibility for rural and maritime communities, the government is opening new offices in Nakasi and Rakiraki and extending services to Rotuma. Additionally, the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence has recommended transitioning immigration enforcement from a complaint-driven model to a “proactive, intelligence-led approach” to better combat fraud and worker exploitation.
