The city of Matera hosted several audiovisual events in October 2026. The 15th edition of the Matera Sport Film Festival opened with a ceremony at the Guerrieri Cineteatro, featuring the documentary “Storia di una famiglia gialloverde – Una scia lunga 70 anni” by Christian Antonilli. The event included the “Nino Grilli” Journalism Prize awarded to Jacopo Volpi and technical previews involving 3D video capture and mixed reality in collaboration with the University of Basilicata.

Following this, the Matera Fiction festival was held from October 11 to 16. This event focused on Mediterranean television through the ‘Cantiere Mediterraneo’ program, highlighting productions from Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, and Turkey. Notable inclusions were the European premiere of the Moroccan series ‘Rhama’ and presentations of Tunisian works such as ‘Bakma Awled’ and ‘Matbaa’.

Looking ahead, the seventh edition of the Matera Film Festival has been scheduled for November 7 to 15, 2026. Featuring approximately 600 entries from 42 countries, the festival will emphasize cultural cooperation via the ‘Focus Med’ project, an initiative involving an exchange of Italian and Moroccan productions. Other planned collaborations include activities with Cinecittà and the Montréal First Peoples’ Festival, which focuses on Canadian indigenous cinema.
