The Manhattan film scene features diverse upcoming events. The 29th Annual Manhattan Short Film Festival is conducting global screenings, including at the Paragon Theaters in Falls Church and the Stonington Opera House. This year’s selection includes ten films from ten different countries and offers Oscar-qualified entries. Founding director Nicholas Mason characterized the lineup as a “filmic Olympiad.”

Additionally, the inaugural New York Muslim Film Festival is set to launch on October 11 at the SVA Theatre. The festival aims to provide a platform for emerging Muslim filmmakers to present stories that serve as an “establishing paradigm” rather than just counter-narratives. The program features 12 short films from seven countries, with a majority of directors being women.
