Finland is observing National Youth Work Week, an initiative intended to highlight the importance of youth services as a preventative social measure and an investment in the nation’s future.

While youth work professionals—including peer mentors and camp instructors—provide essential support networks and early intervention for young people in distress, the sector faces challenges. Professionals have reported service deficiencies due to gaps in municipal and wellbeing services. Furthermore, funding cuts to non-governmental organizations are reportedly shifting more responsibility onto municipalities, increasing the workload for local youth work services.
