In late August, a fire destroyed approximately 10 acres of stubble in Essex. The Essex Fire and Rescue Service brought the blaze under control with help from a local farmer who ploughed around the flames to contain them. Officials noted the incident occurred during a period of high wildfire risk due to dry weather.

In mid-September, firefighters responded to a major fire involving a thatched-roof house in Woodham Mortimer. Crews used an aerial ladder platform and established a water relay from a swimming pool and other open-water sources due to difficulties with the local water supply. An investigation into the cause of the house fire is expected once the scene is secured.
