The FIS Alpine Ski World Cup season commenced with giant slalom races on the Rettenbach glacier in Sölden, Austria.

Austrian skier Julia Scheib, who won the giant slalom crystal globe last season, suffered a heavy crash during her run. Despite holding a significant lead over Alice Robinson at the second intermediate time, Scheib lost control approximately 30 seconds into her run. Following medical assessment, Scheib told ORF that preliminary checks were positive and she did not believe she had suffered a major injury, though she noted feeling sensation in her knee.

The event was won by American Paula Moltzan, with Mikaela Shiffrin finishing seventh.

Slovenian skier Žan Kranjec entered the season with high motivation, stating, “Motivation is high, the desire for results and top positions remains high.” Having tested new equipment, he aims to demonstrate his ability to compete at the highest level. The season continues a period of transition for Slovenian skiing following the retirement of slalom specialist Ana Bucik Jogan, who concluded her 12-season career to focus on education and ambassadorial roles.
