A Vietnamese fisherman, Truong Van Trung, was rescued by the Vietnam People's Navy after drifting at sea for four days. The incident began on August 12 when Trung was swept overboard from his fishing boat while attempting to make a phone call.

He survived by clinging to a piece of black foam from his vessel. On August 16, crew members of naval vessel 743, part of the 129th Naval Brigade, spotted him near the Thang Long oil field, approximately 80 nautical miles from the coast. Despite heavy waves and dark conditions, naval personnel successfully rescued him.

Upon rescue, Trung, a resident of An Giang, was in a weakened state due to hunger, cold, and lack of water, suffering from sunburn and skin reactions. Naval medical teams provided first aid, food, and rest. On August 18, the naval brigade handed him over to the Ba Ria – Vung Tau Port Border Guard to facilitate reunification with his family.
