Following heavy rainfall in northern Thailand, the Royal Irrigation Department (RID) has implemented proactive measures to manage flooding in the Chao Phraya River basin. In Bangkok, the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand is using large pumps to drain the Lat Krabang and Bang Chan industrial estates, where water levels in common areas have reached 20 to 50 centimeters. While water has entered common areas, officials reported no significant economic damage to factories.

To mitigate impacts on downstream communities, the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives is working to slow water flow in upper reaches, clear obstructions, and coordinate sluice gate usage with tidal patterns. As the RID increased the water discharge rate at the Chao Phraya Dam from 1,950 to 2,000 cubic meters per second, Ang Thong province faced rising risks. In Ang Thong, flooding has impacted the Mueang, Pa Mok, Wiset Chai Chan, and Chaiyo districts, with water levels at a critical telemetry station reaching 7.92 meters, just 8 centimeters below the 8-meter threshold.

More recently, the RID confirmed that discharge from the Chao Phraya and Pa Sak Jolasid dams is being managed to protect Bangkok’s embankments. The Chao Phraya Dam is currently discharging approximately 2,500 cubic meters per second. At the Sam Khok monitoring station in Pathum Thani, the average flow is approximately 2,382 cubic meters per second, remaining below the 3,600 cubic meter threshold that would threaten Bangkok. Meanwhile, the Pa Sak Jolasid Dam is utilizing a step-by-step discharge method to increase capacity for incoming water.
