Florence has undertaken several initiatives focused on urban regeneration and the redevelopment of public green spaces.

In September 2026, the ‘Giardino Mandela’ was inaugurated in Piazza Leopoldo. This 3.2 million euro project, funded by Unicoop Firenze in collaboration with the municipal administration, transformed the area formerly known as ‘Terza Piazza’ into a space featuring green areas, a playground, a calisthenics gym, and wellness paths. The project also addressed structural issues such as water infiltration in underground parking.

Following this, in October 2026, the city launched a 223,915 euro maintenance and environmental redevelopment plan for public green spaces and school areas. Funded by national resources, this phase focuses on the Maragliano garden in District 1 and the Marangoni football pitch in District 2. Improvements include the planting of new trees with drip irrigation systems and the replacement of deteriorated sports surfaces with new resin flooring and repaired fencing.
