Florida is undertaking significant transportation infrastructure expansions to address population growth, tourism, and freight requirements.

Initial efforts include a $20 billion investment to widen the Florida Turnpike, a project that is currently 55 percent complete. This initiative aims to expand the 320-mile mainline to ensure at least six lanes throughout, adding over 965 lane miles of capacity. The project also includes funding for service plaza amenities and improved truck parking. During the process, Governor Ron DeSantis suggested a proposal to eliminate tolls for Florida residents, though no formal plan has been established.

Furthering these efforts, the state has allocated $14.4 billion to the Transportation Work Program for the 2026-2027 fiscal year. This budget includes $4.9 billion for highway construction and maintenance and $1.4 billion for resurfacing over 2,600 lane miles. Additionally, federal funding from the INFRA program has designated $85 million for adding lanes along approximately 20 miles of Interstate 4 in Florida.
