Floyd Schofield is focused on reclaiming momentum in the lightweight division following a period of inactivity caused by a medical emergency in Saudi Arabia during early 2025. He is scheduled to compete against Lucas Bahdi on October 10 for the vacant WBA lightweight title.

Schofield has identified several potential targets, including a unification bout against William Zepeda, as well as matchups with Abdullah Mason, Gary Russell Jr., and Shakur Stevenson. Promoter Oscar De La Hoya has expressed strong support for the prospect, predicting Schofield will become the undisputed lightweight champion and comparing his resilience to that of Sugar Ray Leonard.

Following Schofield’s victory over Lucas Bahdi to capture the vacant WBA title, De La Hoya has addressed the possibility of title unification. While De La Hoya initially expressed hesitation regarding a matchup between Schofield and Golden Boy’s own WBC champion, William Zepeda—citing the business implications of managing two separate champions—he has since agreed to the possibility of a unification bout between the two fighters.
