Fonderie Pisano is facing a potential industrial crisis involving the possible layoff of workers as social safety nets expire. The company has stated that production cannot resume due to administrative hurdles, specifically after the Campania Region suspended the review of its Integrated Environmental Authorization (AIA) pending further impact assessments. 

In response, the company appealed to the Regional Administrative Court (TAR) to request an urgent conference, arguing that production could restart using an already installed and authorized electric furnace to prevent layoffs. Management claims it has already submitted necessary documentation to comply with Council of State rulings and Best Available Techniques (BAT) standards.

While the Fiom-Cgil union initially sought to protect 160 workers from both Fonderie Pisano and the former ArcelorMittal site in Luogosano, negotiations have shifted toward the future of approximately 88 to 100 workers at the Fratte plant in Salerno, whose social safety nets are set to expire by October 31, 2026.

Following a meeting at the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy, discussions are exploring whether the Pisano family will formally declare the cessation of production. Such a legal step could trigger ministerial decrees to freeze direct dismissals and activate extraordinary social buffers. Parallel efforts involving the Ministry and Invitalia aim to identify a new industrial area for a potential ‘green foundry’ project. However, the company has maintained it will proceed with layoffs if no developments occur, while health associations have mobilized to oppose the company’s legal appeals regarding environmental issues.
