Ford Motor Company issued a recall for six 2026 Ford Explorer SUVs equipped with 2.3-liter EcoBoost engines due to a defect in the connecting rod bearings. The issue was traced to a specific production window at the Dearborn Engine Plant where components were assembled with imprecise measurements.

According to filings with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the defective bearings could cause excessive wear, leading to engine seizure, sudden loss of power, or a breach in the engine block. Such a breach could result in oil leaks and an increased risk of fire.

Quality control identified ten warranty replacements exhibiting identical issues. To resolve the defect, Ford intends to replace the entire engine long blocks for the affected vehicles free of charge.
