In La Rioja, authorities activated Level 1 of the Special Civil Protection Emergency Plan following a blaze in the La Irruz area of Villoslada de Cameros. High winds complicated extinction efforts, which utilized helicopters, cargo planes, and ground units. In response to such risks, the regional government has also implemented pilot training programs like the ‘Active Towns against Forest Fires’ initiative to improve municipal organization and resident self-protection. In Ourense, a major fire in Calvos de Randín burned approximately 140 hectares. Due to the fire’s proximity to the As Meaus residential area, authorities declared Situation 2 as a preventive measure. The blaze spread through terrain described as having “very difficult access,” leading to a massive deployment of 17 brigades and multiple aircraft from both regional and national ministries. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-24: Ourense forest fire triggers emergency response near residential areas A forest fire in Calvos de Randín, Ourense, has burned 140 hectares, prompting a Situation 2 emergency due to its proximity to the As Meaus area in Baltar. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/ourense-forest-fire-triggers-emergency-response-near-residential-areas ### 2026-08-26: La Rioja activates emergency response for Villoslada forest fire La Rioja has activated Level 1 emergency protocols for a forest fire in Villoslada de Cameros while continuing regional training programs to improve community preparedness for wildfire risks. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/la-rioja-activates-emergency-response-for-villoslada-forest-fire --- Cite as: Forest fires and emergency responses in Spain.
