Formula One history is defined by technical evolution and various championship records. Since 1950, the sport has seen 35 different world champions. Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton share the record for the most titles, with seven each. Other notable champions include Juan Manuel Fangio, Alain Prost, Sebastian Vettel, and Max Verstappen, who have each secured four titles.

Historical milestones include Michael Schumacher’s first championship with Ferrari at the 2000 Japanese Grand Prix, which ended a twenty-year title drought for the team. More recently, the 2025 championship concluded in December with Lando Norris winning his first Drivers’ Championship at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, narrowly defeating Max Verstappen by a two-point margin.
