In Foshan, Guangdong, a construction worker performing maintenance on the exterior of a high-rise building discovered that his safety rope had been severed. The worker, who was descending from the 30th floor, found that approximately 10 meters of his 120-meter rope had been cut near the second floor.

A resident in her late 70s was identified as the person responsible. She claimed she was unaware the rope was professional safety equipment and had cut it to use as a clothesline for drying laundry.

While the incident posed a significant risk, no one was using the rope at the moment it was cut, and the worker was able to utilize alternative equipment to avoid a fall. Rather than involving the police, the worker opted to settle the matter through building management, receiving 400 yuan to cover the cost of the damaged equipment. The event has drawn widespread criticism on social media regarding the life-threatening nature of the resident's actions.
