# Fragile X Syndrome awareness initiatives in Italy

Various Italian cities are participating in European Fragile X Syndrome Awareness Day by illuminating local landmarks in blue. 

In Viterbo, the Palazzo Papale will be lit to support the Italian Fragile X Syndrome Association and promote scientific research and social inclusion. In Calabria, landmarks such as the Murat Castle in Pizzo Calabro and the Madonnina Obelisk in Lamezia Terme will also be illuminated. Salvatore Durante, president of the Calabria section of the association, described the lighting as a symbolic gesture to bring the condition “out of invisibility and into the public space” to encourage dialogue regarding the rights and autonomy of affected individuals.
