Reports indicate a wave of fraudulent activities across Poland, characterized by the use of psychological manipulation to exploit victims.

In Kraków, a postal worker successfully intervened to prevent an elderly woman from transferring 20,000 PLN to scammers who had built trust through small, fake profits. Subsequent reports from police highlight a surge in various tactics, including impersonation of authority figures and romance scams. In Lower Silesia, victims reported losses ranging from 17,000 PLN in jewelry to 137,000 PLN in cash after being targeted by individuals posing as police officers or postal workers. Additionally, a romance scam in the Iława district involved a victim losing over 10,000 PLN to an individual posing as a professional working abroad.

Recent developments show an escalation in the scale of losses through social engineering and romance scams targeting seniors. In Bydgoszcz, a 66-year-old woman lost nearly 500,000 PLN to a scammer posing as a sailor, while in Wrocław, an 87-year-old lost 120,000 PLN to a fake doctor. Other reported schemes include a “biomedic from Qatar” scam and fraudulent job offers involving BLIK payments.

Digital deception has also increased, with PKO Bank Polski warning of phishing emails designed to steal credentials. In the Łódź region, a 21-year-old was arrested for defrauding buyers of over 53,000 PLN worth of electronics using 79 different SIM cards. Beyond digital and social fraud, police data from 2024 indicates a high rate of physical theft, with over 70,000 burglaries reported nationwide.

Law enforcement continues to report diverse schemes targeting vulnerable individuals, including an 85-year-old woman robbed of 30,000 PLN by a man posing as a social worker. Authorities have emphasized that official institutions will never demand immediate cash transfers or sensitive banking credentials through unofficial channels.
