A 51-year-old woman from Udine was sentenced to two years and three months in prison for defrauding a 61-year-old woman in Ascoli Piceno via a Facebook page titled ‘Cartomanti serie’.

The defendant exploited the victim’s emotional vulnerability by claiming she was under a ‘curse’ that required financial payments to resolve. The victim was coerced into paying 7,450 euros through various methods, including Postepay recharges.

During the scam, the victim was instructed to light numerous candles as part of a ritual, which caused a house fire. The court ordered a provisional sum of 13,500 euros for pending civil compensation.
