Lithuanian state institutions have issued warnings regarding an increase in fraudulent SMS messages targeting residents.

The State Tax Inspectorate (VMI) reported that scammers are sending fake messages claiming there are outstanding fines and directing users to malicious websites. The VMI noted that it “never sends SMS messages containing specific tax, overpayment, or fine amounts or external links.”

Following this, the State Social Insurance Fund (Sodra) also warned of fraudulent messages where scammers impersonate the institution to claim individuals have outstanding social insurance contributions. These messages often lack Lithuanian characters and contain links to malicious pages designed to steal personal data and electronic banking credentials.
