The Frelimo party has initiated preparations for its 13th Congress, which is scheduled to be held in Nampula. This event marks a significant departure from tradition, as it is only the fourth time the congress has been hosted outside of Maputo and the first time it will be held in Mozambique’s most populous province.

Under the leadership of Daniel Chapo, the congress aims to elect a new Central Committee to select the Political Commission. In the lead-up to the event, the party has engaged in mobilization efforts in Nampula. Filipe Paúnde, head of the Central Brigade, reported that these activities resulted in the recruitment of over 360,000 new members in the province. Preparatory structures, including provincial and district-level cabinets, have been established to manage the proceedings.
