France is implementing significant reforms to its electricity billing and tariff systems to better align consumption with energy production.

A major reorganization of off-peak and peak hour schedules is being phased in, affecting approximately 15 million households through late 2027. This transition moves away from fixed schedules toward a seasonal model designed to accommodate increased solar power generation. Under the new rules, consumers will receive eight daily off-peak hours, including nighttime slots between 23:00 and 07:00 and daytime slots between 11:00 and 17:00.

Additionally, the French Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) has modified the Tempo electricity tariff rules. While the total number of high-cost ‘red days’ remains fixed at 22 per year, the selection method has changed to focus on peak period criteria. To protect holiday periods, December 24 and December 31 are now officially excluded from being designated as red days.
