France has maintained its position as the world’s second-largest arms exporter, recording 21.2 billion euros in international orders in 2025. This performance marks the third-highest in the nation’s history and represents 9.8% of the global major arms market between 2021 and 2025, placing France ahead of Russia but behind the United States.

The aerospace sector is the primary driver, accounting for approximately 40% of orders, largely due to the success of the Rafale fighter jet. A significant geographic shift is noted, with Asia now accounting for 43% of French orders, up from 23% the previous year. India has emerged as the largest defense customer, with orders totaling approximately 6.9 billion euros, including 26 Rafale Marine jets.

Other major contracts include Scorpène Evolved submarines for Indonesia, a warship for Greece, and Caracal helicopters for Morocco. The Moroccan helicopter order alone accounted for approximately 532.1 million euros. While the naval sector represents 19% of orders, the missile sector is experiencing the fastest growth as a result of European stock replenishment efforts.

Despite these successes, French industry faces competition within Europe. While European military spending has increased, American suppliers currently capture 48% of European defense imports, compared to France’s 6.2% share.
