Municipal police forces in France focus on maintaining local public order through patrols, incident intervention, and community safety initiatives. These efforts include road safety campaigns, neighborhood communication, and delinquency prevention strategies.

Local authorities are expanding these efforts by strengthening cooperation with the National Gendarmerie, particularly in rural areas, through formal protocols to manage narcotics, environmental crimes, and general incidents. Additionally, some municipalities are implementing Communal Safeguard Plans to manage major risks such as floods, heatwaves, or power outages. These plans involve identifying and prioritizing vulnerable residents, such as the elderly, to ensure protection during emergencies.
