The French government has implemented reforms to the ‘prime d’activité’, a social benefit intended to support low-income workers. 

Initial adjustments focused on social convergence, specifically increasing the flat-rate amount for single-person households in Mayotte to 460 euros. This raised the local benefit to 72% of the national standard of 638.28 euros.

A subsequent reform implemented in April 2026 introduced more targeted distribution changes. This reform primarily benefits workers earning between 1,200 and 1,900 euros per month. According to economist Lola Josseran of the Institut des politiques publiques (IPP), the maximum individual monthly increase is capped at 55 euros. The boost is specifically designed for those with a net social income near 1,699 euros, or between 1 and 1.15 times the Smic. Workers earning below the Smic receive no additional gains, while those earning above 1.15 times the Smic experience a progressive decrease in the bonus until it is phased out.
