In the Fucino Plain, the 2026 irrigation season is nearing its end. Due to improved weather and rising water levels, the Consorzio di Bonifica Ovest has requested that municipalities consider lifting the irrigation freeze for the final weekend.

Despite the seasonal conclusion, the Consortium’s President, Giancarlo Annibale Di Pasquale, noted that for the third year in a row, water demand between July 20 and August 10 exceeded infrastructure capacity. To mitigate these recurring shortages, the Consortium is requesting support from the Abruzzo Region to fund projects aimed at increasing irrigation system capacity and reducing vulnerability to extreme demand peaks.
