Authorities in Maranhão, Brazil, have conducted operations resulting in the arrest of two fugitives.

In August 2026, Fagner Gomes Sena was captured in São Luís during a coordinated security operation involving drones and aerial support. Sena had been a fugitive since escaping from the Pedrinhas Penitentiary Complex in 2015 and faced multiple convictions for homicide and robbery.

In September 2026, police arrested a 46-year-old suspect in Timon for the May 2024 murder of a prison guard in São Bernardo. Investigations into the May 25 incident revealed the shooting occurred at a bar in the Santo Eugênio rural area following a dispute motivated by jealousy. The suspect reportedly opened fire on an individual and then turned the weapon on the prison guard when the officer intervened to protect bystanders, including children. While a woman was wounded during the shooting, she survived.

The suspect, who was wanted for homicide, attempted homicide, and drug trafficking, was also caught in flagrante for receiving stolen property after being found with a reported stolen mobile phone. He remains in custody awaiting judicial proceedings.
