Manager Okan Buruk had previously maintained a strong record in official matches against the club, despite Galatasaray suffering its highest number of away league defeats in a single calendar year under his management. Following a 4-0 defeat to Trabzonspor in the Trendyol Süper Lig, Galatasaray President Dursun Özbek met with Buruk to reaffirm his support for the head coach. Özbek issued a statement of full support, dismissing media speculation regarding a rift between management and technical staff. He asserted that the club remains united in its pursuit of a fifth consecutive championship and its European goals. Despite this official stance, the loss has sparked significant debate. Critics and sports commentators have questioned Buruk’s tactical decisions, specifically regarding defensive stability and player selection. Some reports suggest internal dissatisfaction among club executives concerning the team’s lack of a clear game plan and tactical flexibility. Amidst the loss, discussions have also emerged regarding the performance of goalkeeper Uğurcan Çakır, with critics noting statistical trends regarding the team’s success in matches where he was not in goal. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-22: Galatasaray President backs Okan Buruk after Trabzonspor defeat Galatasaray President Dursun Özbek has reaffirmed full support for coach Okan Buruk following a heavy 4-0 loss to Trabzonspor, despite mounting tactical criticism and rumors of internal club tension. 9 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/galatasaray-president-dursun-zbek-backs-okan-buruk-after-trabzonspor-loss ### 2026-09-18: Galatasaray prepares for 144th rivalry match against Trabzonspor Galatasaray prepares for its 144th match against Trabzonspor, with manager Okan Buruk holding a strong record of 7 wins in 10 official meetings despite recent away form challenges. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/galatasaray-prepares-for-144th-rivalry-match-against-trabzonspor --- Cite as: Galatasaray and Trabzonspor football rivalry.
