Pádraic Joyce resigned as manager of the Galway Senior Football Team in September 2026, ending a seven-season tenure that included four consecutive Connacht titles and two All-Ireland finals. Joyce described his time managing the county as a ‘privilege and an honour’. His departure followed a season marked by a loss to Roscommon in the Connacht Championship final and a quarter-final exit against Dublin.

Following the resignation, the Galway GAA board began the process of selecting a successor. Éamonn Fitzmaurice, a former Kerry manager and three-time All-Ireland winner, emerged as the leading candidate for the role. The board moved to discuss the ratification of Fitzmaurice to define the strategic direction of the football program.
