Minas Gerais is experiencing growth in its gastronomic tourism and agricultural sectors. The 29th Tiradentes Culture and Gastronomy Festival, themed ‘Minas Lusitânia – um elo entre culturas’, recently concluded after drawing approximately 70,000 people. Curated by Rusty Marcellini, the event explored historical culinary connections between Minas Gerais and Portugal, featuring over 40 chefs and highlighting shared traditions such as the use of pork, olive oil, and cheeses.

Parallel to these cultural events, the state is expanding its regional food circuits. The Rota do Queijo de Minas has launched its seventh circuit in the Zona da Mata, featuring six farms. In Caeté, a new ‘Circuito de Caves’ has opened at the Santuário Basílica Nossa Senhora da Piedade for tasting local products like Queijo Frei Rosário. 

The region is also seeing increased international recognition for olive oil production in the Mantiqueira de Minas and southern areas. Producers are utilizing high altitudes and thermal amplitude to create award-winning oils; notably, the Carcará olive oil from the Cruzziléia farm has seen significant production growth and international accolades despite recent weather challenges.

Further cultural expansion is noted in Tiradentes, where the 10th edition of the Semana Criativa de Tiradentes is scheduled for October 15–18. This festival, focusing on art, design, and architecture, expects to attract over 22,000 visitors.

Tourism efforts are also highlighting historical and natural sites, such as the colonial architecture and Estrada Real in Serro, as well as the waterfalls in Milho Verde. To support these initiatives, the Rota do Queijo de Minas recently held an event in Juiz de Fora featuring free tastings and fairs to connect consumers with artisanal producers from territories including Canastra, Diamantina, Mantiqueira de Minas, and Zona da Mata. The project utilizes digital maps and QR codes to assist tourists in locating producers, inns, and restaurants.
