# Gaziantep culinary geographical indications expansion

The city of Gaziantep has expanded its list of geographically indicated products through the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office. Recent registrations include Sakız Helvası, Avrat Salatası, and Diş Hediği, the latter being a food prepared to celebrate a baby’s first tooth. 

These additions bring the total number of geographically indicated products in the city to 112. The registration process, led by the Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality’s Department of Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development, aims to protect traditional production methods and increase international recognition of local products. 

Currently, five of the city’s products hold European Union geographical indication status: Antep Baklavası, Araban Sarımsağı, Menengiç Kahvesi, Antep Fıstık Ezmesi, and Gaziantep Lahmacunu. Additional registration processes are ongoing for several other regional items.
