Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states are pursuing increased regional cooperation across various sectors, including healthcare and municipal management.

In early September 2026, health ministers met in Bahrain to discuss strengthening Gulf cooperation to improve service levels and efficiency. Key priorities included digital transformation in health, innovation, and preparedness for future challenges, alongside the review of a unified action plan for the 2026–2030 period.

Following these discussions, GCC leadership emphasized the need for joint municipal cooperation to develop smarter, more sustainable cities. This effort includes the launch of the GCC Urban Research Center, which will utilize artificial intelligence and geospatial technologies to support decision-making. To encourage innovation, the GCC also announced the seventh cycle of the GCC Municipal Award, themed ‘Smart Solutions in Municipal Work’ for 2027–2028.
