General Mills has confirmed it will end the distribution of Häagen-Dazs ice cream in Brazil, concluding the brand’s nearly 30-year presence in the country. This decision is part of a broader global portfolio restructuring strategy to focus resources on priority sectors such as pet food, cereal bars, and super-premium ice cream.

The exit follows an earlier announcement in March 2026 regarding the sale of General Mills’ Brazilian operations to 3corações. That transaction, valued at approximately R$ 800 million, includes the Yoki and Kitano brands as well as production and distribution units in Pouso Alegre (MG) and Campo Novo do Parecis (MT). The divestment of the Brazilian business contributed roughly US$ 350 million to the company’s fiscal year 2025 net sales. The negotiation with 3corações is expected to be finalized by the end of 2026, pending regulatory approvals.

While Häagen-Dazs was excluded from the 3corações deal, its departure occurs during a period of expansion for Brazil’s premium ice cream market. Driven by consumer preference for premiumization, the segment is seeing significant growth from competitors such as Bacio di Latte, which has seen annual growth of approximately 30% since 2023, and Gelato Borelli. Other notable players in the premium and super-premium categories include Magnum, Ben & Jerry’s, and La Basque. The Häagen-Dazs brand will gradually disappear from retail shelves as existing stocks are sold off.
